Dublin, 21st April 2016 – The ILCU Foundation has published its 2015 Annual Report today, which details an important 12 months for the ILCU Foundation as it supported credit union movements in six countries across 3 continents, and responded to two major international humanitarian crises.

“Our work to provide sustainable credit unions for members in developing countries is only made possible through the monumental support which we received from Irish credit unions and their members’ in 2015. A major aspect of our work in 2015 was to evaluate the effects of credit union membership in The Gambia using a comparative study. It found that that nine of the ten households that were revisited are better off in 2015 than they were in 2012. It also found that since 2012 fewer households indicated a difficulty in feeding or educating family members in 2015”, said Alan Moore, General Manager of the ILCU Foundation.

He added, “We were also in a position to respond to the Nepal Earthquake Disaster in April and the Global Refugee Crisis in September by helping people to restore their lives back to normal as quickly as possible by providing assistance through our Emergency Aid Fund and by partnering with leading international charities.”

Alan concluded by stating, “Our main focus is to provide sustainable credit unions in developing countries, but we couldn’t stand by and watch these tragedies unfold without providing some sort of support. We would like to thank our partner credit unions and their members’ for their continuous contributions towards our work.”
