The Foundation has approved a donation of €10,000 to help with immediate and ongoing relief efforts following the recent earthquake in Turkey and Syria. €5,000 will be donated through the Irish Emergency Alliance (IEA), which works with local partners to provide on-the-ground relief, and €5,000 will be donated to the World Council for Credit Unions Foundation (WOCCU) in support of their Turkish Cooperative Earthquake Relief Fund supporting humanitarian efforts initially and the Turkish Agricultural Credit Cooperatives.
Alan Moore, CEO of the Foundation, “the Foundation acknowledges that humanitarian disasters regularly arise, and recognising our shared humanity and the credit union philosophy of people helping people – we felt a need to respond and help in some small way on behalf of the credit unions that support us”.
The Foundation has a Humanitarian Emergency Funding Policy, with consideration given under four headings: project focus, organisation selection, available funding and extraneous circumstances. The main focus of the Foundation’s work is and will continue to be, providing financial and technical assistance to develop and support strong, sustainable credit union movements.
